Think Tanks

These forums are a chance to discuss and brainstorm big ideas, industry issues and future strategies surrounding Youth Circus and Physical Theatre. These sessions are facilitated by industry leaders.

CATAPULT 2012- In 2012 we will have 6 x 2 hour “Think Tanks”.

Suggestions for Think Tanks in 2012 include:

  • Trainer accreditation, registration, touring and exchange programs.
  • Youth programs- management, governance and leadership.
  • Emerging Artist and graduate programs
  • Creating Physical Theatre for and with young People.
  • How to run sustainable programs in regional and remote area’s.
Do you have any suggestions for the Think Tanks?

·         What do you want to talk about?
·         What ideas do you want to share?
·         What do you think we need to address as an industry?

Let us know your thoughts on the Catapult Think Tanks.

  1. I really like the connection to Creating Physical Theatre for and with young People. I was lucky enough to be present for the TYP Tour, at CSU this year with Dan Aubin's 2011 Class.

The way the children engaged with the work and the following workshop was really interesting to see. You saw them both conenct to content but also want to explore their bodies and the ways they could therein use them to tell stories and make shapes etc.

It might be nice to think-tank some possibilities for projects or training in those areas.

  2. Hi my name is Rohan Smyth and I am working as a Circus Teacher in a Hill tribe community in Thailand. I am from Bathurst and have worked in the Catapult festival in the past. I would love to create some kind of exchange between the community here and the Bathurst community during the catapult festival. I would love to hear some ideas as to what the exchange could be and how it could work.

A simple way of doing it could be to create a short doco/video presentation of what we are doing here and maybe showcase a short performance, something akin to what Mike Finch did last year when he was showcasing Circus Oz's early work with Stephen Champion.

Love to hear your comments and to find out if something like this would be possible.

    Rohan :)

  3. Hey again Rohan Smyth here.
I would still love to share through a video blog of performance, or a short doco about what it is that Makhampom is doing with Social Circus in South East Asia.
The other thing is, I will actually probably be able to attend the festival and I really want to talk/even get a forum space to discuss the ideas of the creating a social circus network for South East Asia.
We have been developing the network for several months and now we are in the stage of developing formal volunteer & youth circus exchange programs.
I would really love to bring this opportunity to the catapult theatre festival. I would love to have the opportunity to hold talks about what our plans are and what opportunities there will be for circus artists and teachers in South East Asia.
I would like to discuss the idea of the network, talk about the main partnering companies and then talk about the options for volunteers, funding options and other queries.
Please let me know what you think and if this might be possible for catapult this year.

  4. ROHAN I love this idea! I would love to learn about opportunites for circus & physical theatre artists in South East Asia. When I participated in the Makhampom Study Tour in 2011 I saw first hand the positive effects of the theatre workshops and performances. It would be great to hear more about your program with the Hill Tribes and how it has strengthened the community.
